ROOTED IN FOSTERING HEALTH AND WELLNESSGrape Roots fosters health and wellness in the community through connecting individuals with how and where food grows. Registered Dietitian, Tasha Temple provides Grape Roots with a fresh, professional perspective on creating a flourishing lifestyle through growing fresh and local food. Growing your own food can have a beneficial impact on overall health. Urban farms and gardens generate “food security” which results in improved health and quality of life. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, “food security” exists when all people, at all times, have physical, social, and economic access to sufficient, safe, nutritious food that meets dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life.” Grape Roots promotes food security, by improving health and wellness and decreasing health disparities in urban communities by building community farms and gardens. Please see “Health and Wellness Talks” found in the section “Rooted in Providing Education” for more information on how Grape Roots responds to the community’s educational needs on health and wellness.
