SQUASH

SQUASH
Squashes are one of the oldest known crops - 10,000 years by estimates from locations in Mexico. There are two different types of squash: summer and winter squash. Summer squash, like zucchini squash, have thin skins and can be eaten whole -- skin, seeds, and all. Winter squash like pumpkin and butternut squash have robust skins that aren't usually edible and have a much harder skin. Both types of squash grow low to the ground and spread out in long vines as they grow. Squash will grows from small, beautiful yellow flowers. Head on over to the garden and see if you can find the zucchini and butternut squash.
